Top tips to plan a dive holiday

So you are ready to plan your dive trip to Nusa Penida? Before you go, you can use our checklist to make sure you are ready for your dive holiday!

Ready for some diving?

Choose a reputable and experienced dive operator or resort.

You can email a few dive shops and check how well they answer your query. Another valuable tool is of course to check their reviews!

Get your dive certification or refresh your skills before your trip.

If you have not dived in a while, it is always a good idea to take a refresher or book one for when you arrive. By doing so, you will review equipment setup, basic skills and important safety points before you get back into the water.

Consider the time of year and the location's weather and water conditions.

Not all areas offer diving all year long. In some others, depending on the season, the marine life or the conditions might change quite a bit. So do a bit of research beforehand and make sure you are picking a good season for the area you want to dive in. However, "low season" in some areas might also be a good choice if you want to avoid the crowds in popular dive sites.

Consider purchasing dive insurance for added protection and peace of mind.

Most travel insurances do not cover diving. It is very easy to get a short-term insurance for the duration of your trip. That will give you peace of mind. Of course the best type of insurance is the one you never have to use, but in case something were to happen, dive insurance will cover any medical or evacuation expenses. Here at Purple Dive we offer DAN short term plan that you can buy for 1 up to 30 days.

Follow safe diving practices and always dive within your limits.

This is of course a recommendation that is valid for all your dives! You should always apply safety guidelines when diving, follow your divemaster's or instructor advice, and plan your dives in a conservative manner!

Protect the environment by following responsible diving guidelines.

As divers, we care about the ocean and the underwater world and we want to protect it! It is easy to do your part: have good buoyancy and do not touch corals or marine life underwater, do not harass any sealife, and if you see trash underwater, pick it up!
