Manta rays, turtles and many more may be among your first encounters in the blue realm below.

This is where the magic begins! Learn how to dive in Nusa Penida!

Who can do the PADI Open Water Course?

To do the PADI Open Water course (or the junior version), you’ll need to be at least 10 years old, in good physical health, able to swim 200 metres and float on the surface unassisted for 10 minutes. No previous scuba diving experience is required, although it does help if you have done some snorkelling.

For all courses you will need to fill a medical form, download it here. If you have any questions regarding the medical form, get in touch with us. You might need a medical clearance to dive prior to your arrival.

The theory portion of the PADI Open Water Course can be done online before arriving in Nusa Penida and we recommend doing so. This will make the schedule of your course shorter once you are here.

PADI Open Water Course description

We recommend covering most of the theory before you join us for your course, to save time during your holiday! Through the PADI E-learning you will read and watch videos and test your knowledge. Once you are here, you will get plenty of practice with the equipment and your instructor during a minimum of 5 sessions in the pool to learn all the basic skills.  Then, best of all, you will do 4 dives in the ocean under the supervision of your instructor to get used to swimming around with all the fish! You might just ‘bump into’ a turtle or a manta…Nusa Penida offers many stunning dive sites!

People are different and learn differently, so your PADI Open Water course in Nusa Penida with us has room for flexibility.

If you do the theory with us while you are here on the island, you will need to allow an extra day for your course.

What can I do once I am certified as a PADI Open Water Diver?

Successful completion of the PADI Open Water course qualifies you to rent diving equipment and join guided dive tours all over the world and dive to a maximum depth of 18 metres with a group or a buddy. It also qualifies you to dive unguided with another similarly certified diver. However, we recommend getting some diving experience under your belt in the company of a PADI Instructor or Divemaster first, before doing that, especially in conditions and at dive sites that are new to you. (If you are under 15 and have taken the PADI Junior Open Water course, there are stricter depth and autonomy limitations.)
