The way we do it

Well, we do it well! Firstly, our PADI IDC schedule is designed so you have plenty of time to complete everything you need, and we send you the materials to study ahead of time. Additionally, our Platinum Course Director Helene and our newest Course Director Yvonne have many years of experience and hundreds of dive professional certifications to their name; they will be there every step of the way to make sure you succeed! As a bonus, with us, you can get support in English, French, Mandarin, Indonesian and Spanish.

Prerequisites to the PADI Instructor course

You need to be a certified PADI Divemaster or equivalent
You need to have 100 logged dives by the time you take the PADI Instructor Examination
You need to be 18 years old and been a certified diver for at least 6 months
You need to be physically fit to dive and have a medical certificate

Team teaching add-on

For those who want to get their first certifications and teach under supervision to gain confidence.

We offer an extra month of internship after the IDC during which you will first shadow and then team teach courses with our experienced PADI instructors. You will certify the students that you teach. You can teach and dive up to 6 days per week for a month. Lunch is included on diving days.

MEET YOUR COURSE DIRECTORS

Hélène

Originally from France, I started scuba diving at 13 in the local pool. I learnt to dive with one of those famous J-valves!

My first open water dives were in a cold green river in France and I wasn't super enthusiastic about the whole thing. That was until I discovered tropical diving on my first trip in Asia a few years later and I was suddenly hooked.

During my twenties, I got certified up to Divemaster, but did not work full time as a dive professional straight away. Although pretty much every single holiday or trip was about diving!

During my first trip to Bali in 2011, I fell in love with the small island of Nusa Lembongan and the marine life around it. I moved there shortly after, where I took my PADI Instructor course and started working as a dive instructor straight after completing my PADI IDC.

Three years later, I got accepted into the selective Course Director training. I then went onto working for a big PADI IDC Centre in Bali and ran a successful professional program there for a couple of years, while also supervising Divemaster training.

Meanwhile, I had already met my friend and soon-to-be business partner Julia while volunteering for Trash Hero, and in 2019 together we opened Purple Dive Penida.

I love teaching dive professionals and I have now done hundreds of dive pro certifications. When I am not teaching or busy running the dive centre, I enjoy macro underwater photography, drift dives, and I love to travel around Indonesia to discover new dive spots!

Originally from Singapore, I discovered Scuba diving in 2013 and quickly fell in love with it. Giving up my original career plans of being an Auditor (bit more boring, I know!), I went down the career path of becoming a Scuba Instructor in 2015 in Nusa Lembongan, Bali, which was also where I met Helene, my future employer.

After gaining years of experience in the challenging dive conditions of the Nusa island area and certifying a couple hundred students, I first joined Purple Dive as Dive Manager and overseeing Divemaster training. In 2022, I decided to focus more on Instructor training under the mentorship of Helene. This was where I found out that I tremendously enjoy mentoring dive professionals and sharing my wealth of experience and knowledge.

In 2023 I got accepted into the PADI Course Director Training which means I am now able to conduct IDCs independently. I am able to offer language support in English, Chinese and Indonesian. When I am not running IDCs, you may find me busy enjoying other activities like sidemount diving, dive photography and working out!
