Holidays are a time to chill out and relax but also to engage in sports and physical activity and feel good. Nusa Penida has a good number of sporty activities to choose from for a healthy and sporty holiday.
Scuba diving
Of course, Nusa Penida is famous for its incredible reefs, manta ray population, and mola mola sightings so diving is a no-brainer if you are spending a few days here. The ride to most dive sites is worth the trip alone and you will not be disappointed by the dive sites, the reefs are healthy and teeming with life, lots of big pelagic encounters like sharks and barracuda. Currents can be strong so expect a bit of adrenaline and lots of fun. Several professional dive operators, catering to different nationalities/ languages can be found in Penida.

Freediving
As mentioned above there are lots of amazing creatures to see and if you love the idea of being free as a mermaid, freediving is for you. Learn how to swim down to 20 m and more on just one breath. Nusa Penida is a fun place to do it since you’ll probably be drifting as you learn or swimming down next to mantas. At the time of writing, there are two professional freediving schools in Penida. Pure Freediving and Freedive Nusa both have friendly teams who will help you amaze yourself.
Yoga
Penida is a great place to practice yoga. There are a few places offering nice shalas and a selection of great classes run by talented yogis. 'Tishe' offers a hidden tranquil spot in the jungle with a lovely cafe and beautiful wooden shala. Practice takes place every day, usually at 9.30 and 5 o'clock. Depending on the day, yoga styles vary from Ashtanga, and Hatha, to body movement, and more. Recently, 'Deep Roots resort' has opened up on the hill behind Ped village, it has an awesome yoga shala with a view and experienced teachers.

Boxing/ gyms
There is a great gym '2Bfit' in Sental, that offers access to all sorts of weights, a big floor space, some suspending machines and punching bags. There are Bootcamp classes in the morning and Muaythai/boxing classes in the afternoon. You will find several other gyms with machines scattered around the island including one in Toyapakeh at the Semabuh Hill resort.
Jogging
Penida is a good jogging place {most places are, all you need is a road right?}. The main road is way too busy but there are a number of small roads going up into the wilderness with incredible views… You jog up to start and jog happily down on the way back. The beach is another option if you are hardcore, the north coast offers a pretty continuous stretch of beach at low tide so you can enjoy a good distance and the view of Mount Agung across the water. Like in most hot places you‘ll need to plan for early morning or late afternoon runs so you don’t collapse from heat exhaustion.
Trekking/ hiking
Being a wild and still fairly off-the-beaten-track island, trekking is an option in Penida with many great views and natural monuments to visit. Ask for a knowledgeable local guide, many locals will be happy to take you exploring. Most of the famous spots include a bit of fairly strenuous walking anyway. Tembeling and Saren cliff point you can probably do by yourself but plan for a tropical trek (e.g hats and water), the sun is relentless and there are no shops on the way.
